Good Friends Chinese Restaurant
About This Spot
Nestled quietly at a crossroads in the foothills of Valley Springs, Good Friends Chinese Restaurant feels like a cherished secret among locals — a cozy, unpretentious spot where familiarity lingers in the air as much as the comforting aroma of home-cooked Chinese fare. The moment you step inside, you sense a gentle rhythm of warmth and attentiveness, the kind of place where meals stretch pleasantly over conversation, laughter, and the simple joy of shared moments.
The atmosphere moves at an easy pace, casual yet thoughtful, where the gleaming steam tables invite you to explore a variety of dishes that reflect both tradition and a hint of playful indulgence. From crisp spring rolls and richly sauced noodles to fresh sashimi and unexpected treats like chocolate ice cream and coconut macaroons with praline ice cream, each offering feels like a small discovery on your plate. Behind the scenes, there’s a visible care in the upkeep of the dining room and its daily rhythms — nothing ostentatious, but everything thoughtfully maintained.
Good Friends isn’t about fancy frills or rushing through your meal. It’s rooted in that feeling of being welcomed not just as a customer, but almost like an old friend who’s returned for another satisfying taste of familiar comfort. Whether you’re diving into a bowl of noodles that carry subtle layers of flavor or savoring fresh seafood selections, there’s a quiet generosity in the way portions and service unfold — attentive, without being intrusive.
Beyond the food, it’s the little touches that quietly define the experience here: a staff member who anticipates your needs with a refill or a fresh napkin as your plate empties; a spotless dining area that reflects pride not just in the cuisine but in the whole welcoming environment. It’s easy to imagine families, couples, and solo diners alike finding their own corner in this unassuming space, returning time after time to a comforting mix of seasons, textures, and genuine hospitality.

Very friendly people and the food was pretty good. Loved the fact that they still had a buffet. Also love the fish and the turtle. Thank you Sorry was so impressed with the pond I forgot to take pics of the food

I seldom give five stars, but I just love this place. Tucked at the crossroads of Highway 13 and 26 in the foothills and way out of the way of the beaten path. Hadn’t been here for a couple years and glad I made the trip up for Modesto. There’s nothing fancy about it’s just straightforward, but it’s very clean and sanitary. The steam tables are kept immaculate and the food is well stocked and up to temperature. The sushi is the best I’ve had in quite some time. All the ingredients are fresh and delightful. As you work your way through the steam table you just don’t have enough room on one plate. Don’t bother thinking about a diet when you come in here because it just doesn’t work. The staff is friendly and efficient. If you happen by it well worth the stop

I have passed this place for years, but I finally stopped there for dinner the other evening. The food was great, and the presentation was amazing .(I forgot to take a picture) They have tons of entrees, sushi, and a desert bar. You will leave stuffed!

One of our absolute favorite places. Decided to treat the daughter today and she loved it. The fresh wrap spring rolls were perfect.

Went to this restaurant last night and the service was fabulous and the food was really good. As soon as you finish the plate, they came and cleaned it off the table and the amazing thing was they also brought extra forks and napkins without being asked, and that’s a great level of service.

We found this buffet open on holiday Mondays. The food was really. Sushi was delicious. There were different choices of ice cream for dessert. And the seats were really friendly for kids. We decided to come every time.

While I enjoy many of the food items at Good Friends Chinese Buffet, my favorite is by far their sushi bar. I absolutely love sushi and always make sure to eat my fill when we come to this restaurant. I cannot recommend their sushi highly enough.
